Primary Objective
Provides collaborative, proficient, and coordinated direct and indirect clinical care for complex client presentations, including working alongside less experienced nursing and midwifery staff within the specialty area.

Context Statement
Under the direction of the Health Team Manager, lead the team on a daily basis and implement evidence-based healthcare services to clients held in custodial care across the Darwin Region. Employing extensive experience, skills, and knowledge of contemporary custodial healthcare nursing, the successful applicant will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team with demonstrated advanced clinical skills. Knowledge and experience in prison health, including relevant legislation governing work practices, is essential. The successful applicant will be required to have experience driving a manual vehicle and meet specific security clearance requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for the same.
  2. Demonstrated highly-developed clinical knowledge and skills in the relevant area of nursing/midwifery, supporting well-developed clinical decision-making and problem-solving to achieve best practice outcomes for healthcare consumers.
  3. Demonstrate and promote a learning environment through clinical support, instruction, and feedback, including mentoring students, graduates, and less experienced staff across the multidisciplinary team.
  4. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy, including interpreting established professional precedents and organizational policies and supporting change management.
  5. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills to influence and convince staff and/or clients, including handling sensitive matters requiring tact and diplomacy.
  6. Demonstrates well-developed knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural issues, influences, and sensitivities that affect healthcare provision for clients and families.

Desirable

  1. Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to the specialty area.

Ongoing appointment is subject to the attainment of a Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice relevant to the specialty area. The preferred or recommended applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check. A criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is relevant to the role. This position carries specific immunization requirements. To be eligible for appointment, candidates must meet the immunization criteria.
