Primary Healthcare - Prison Healthcare Team
Location: Darwin & Alice Springs
Dates: up to 8 weeks contract.
Primary Objective
Utilise advanced nursing/midwifery knowledge, skills, attributes, and abilities within a specified area of clinical practice to foster therapeutic and professional relationships with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Context Statement
This position involves working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary health care team to promote, implement, and evaluate healthcare programs aimed at improving outcomes for clients in a custodial setting. The successful applicant will possess a sound understanding of health issues affecting diverse populations and have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience relevant to delivering healthcare in a custodial nursing care environment. Experience driving a manual vehicle is required, along with eligibility to obtain a relevant driver's license and compliance with security clearance requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing/midwifery care to achieve identified individual/group health outcomes.
Provide leadership and care coordination across a shift and serve as a resource for other staff members within a designated portfolio (e.g., education, clinical standards).
Be accountable for the planning, provision, and communication of nursing/midwifery care, including the evaluation and necessary revisions of practice.
Uphold core values of safety, responsiveness, and kindness in all decision-making processes and interactions with clients and colleagues.
Adhere to defined service quality standards and workplace health and safety policies to ensure high-quality care and a safe work environment.

Selection Criteria
Essential
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligibility for registration.
Demonstrated well-developed knowledge, skills, and experience in the relevant area of nursing/midwifery, with specialization in certain aspects and a broad range of competencies.
Proven ability to function as a clinical resource and role model, including mentoring and preceptoring less experienced staff and students.
Experience in contributing to the development and implementation of local initiatives beyond direct patient care, such as clinical education and quality assurance activities.
Effective communication skills for achieving positive outcomes, including fostering multidisciplinary working relationships, managing challenging behaviors, and resolving conflicts.
Well-developed understanding of the social and cultural issues that influence healthcare provision for clients and families.

Ongoing appointment is contingent on the attainment of a Graduate Certificate beyond entry-to-practice in a relevant specialty area. The preferred applicant will be required to hold a current working with children clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check; a prior criminal history will not disqualify an applicant unless it is relevant to the position. This role has specific immunization requirements that must be met for eligibility.
