Youth Counsellor

About the copmany

Be part of a dedicated team comprising two counsellors, a social worker, a general practitioner, two nurses, and two youth workers, all working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You will report to and collaborate directly with the Centre Manager. This team is united by a shared vision of creating more than just a workplace. About the Role:

As a Youth Counselor specialising in trauma, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive counseling services to rangatahi who have experienced trauma. Your primary goal will be to support these individuals on their journey towards healing and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma-informed counseling services to young individuals, focusing on addressing the effects of trauma on their mental health and well-being.
  • Respond to referrals from various sources, including individuals, families, and community agencies, ensuring timely and effective support is provided.
  • Utilise advanced communication skills to empower young individuals to make informed decisions and develop actionable plans for their recovery.
  • Collaboratively set realistic and achievable goals with clients, monitoring their progress and providing ongoing support.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions in compliance with organisational standards and contractual obligations.

What You Need to Apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in counseling or a related field
  • Experience working with youth who have experienced trauma
  • Full and clean driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Te Reo Māori (desirable)
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies (e.g., NZAC)
  • Working knowledge of office technology
